Any authorised activities that uncovered, irritates, places or stores land and soil. It may also mean activities of excavation, and/or filling with topsoil, subsoil, sediments, rock and/or other underlying materials on which the soil is formed. Some example of such exercises include roading, cleanfill sites, cut and fill operations, quarrying and mining and re-shaping. Other include the construction of roads, tracks, firebreaks and landings, and ground shaping (re-contouring), root raking and blading.
In Singapore, Earthworks is generally defined as any operations or works in, on over land which result in a substantial modification to the existing ground terrain, land form or slope. These include excavation, formation of any new slope or embankment, cut and fill operations.
